What is Science Olympiad?
The Middle School Science Olympiad is a competitive event for students in grades 6-9, featuring challenges across various scientific disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and earth science. Participants compete in both theoretical (written tests) and practical (hands-on) events that test their knowledge, problem-solving skills, and teamwork. The competition aims to promote STEM education and interest, with teams advancing through regional, state, and national levels.
How does it work?
The competition is broken into approximately 20 different events. Some events require students to build and calibrate something to bring on competition day, others are knowledge tests where students answer multiple-choice and short-answer questions on a variety of subjects. These tests are designed to be hard, and students are allowed to bring note sheets with as much information as they can fit.
